Doing Business in God's Kingdom

October 25, 2015 Speaker: Drew Bennett Series: The Gospel of Luke

Passage: Luke 19:11–27, Luke 21:1–4

Discussion Questions:

  1. Revisit all of the passages mentioned this morning – Zacchaeus in Luke 19:1-10 who gave away 50% of his wealth, the widow in Luke 21:1-4 who gave 100%, and the Macedonian Christians in 2 Corinthians 8:1-4 who gave “beyond their means” – and discuss how together they help us formulate standard for our giving.
  2. What is your practice of giving? (This subject is normally off limits, but encourage people to share. Take time to celebrate one another and encourage one another. Be careful to not soar into self-righteousness or sink into despair as you discuss.)
  3. What is hard about doing generosity like this? One of the obstacles is pride. How does pride keep you from obeying the teaching of the passage? Another obstacle is fear. How does fear keep you from obedience?
  4. What does repentance look like for you? Can you concretely describe the change that needs to take place in your life with your money?
  5. How has God been generous to you in Christ? What are some other practical examples of his generosity to you in the past? Given how he has proven generous to you in the past, can you still be proud? Can you still be afraid?
