Discussion Questions:
- What is “neighboring”? How does neighboring differ from friendship?
- Luke gives us insight into the lawyer’s heart when he tells us that he was motivated by wanting to justify himself (Luke 10:29). What does that mean?
- How does law-obedience destroy love? (Hint: the example of the priest and the Levite in Jesus’ parable.) In what situations are you tempted to act like these religious professionals?
- What is the key to the parable? Who does Jesus want the lawyer to imagine himself as in the story? Why is this so important?
- How does the Good Samaritan love the half-dead man? What are some practical ways that we can follow his example?
