Won't You Be My Neighbor?

Speaker: Drew Bennett Series: The Gospel of Luke Passage: Luke 10:25–37

Discussion Questions:

  1. What is “neighboring”? How does neighboring differ from friendship?

  2. Luke gives us insight into the lawyer’s heart when he tells us that he was motivated by wanting to justify himself (Luke 10:29). What does that mean?

  3. How does law-obedience destroy love? (Hint: the example of the priest and the Levite in Jesus’ parable.) In what situations are you tempted to act like these religious professionals?

  4. What is the key to the parable? Who does Jesus want the lawyer to imagine himself as in the story? Why is this so important?

  5. How does the Good Samaritan love the half-dead man? What are some practical ways that we can follow his example?
