Illustration: If the gospel is that you are on God’s heart, then the result of the gospel is to have a heart for others like God’s heart for you.
I. THE DOCTRINE YOU HOLD ON TO
Israel’s unbelief was not due to a failure of God’s power. What are the practical implications of this for us?
II. THE DEMAND YOU LET GO OF
Israel’s unbelief was not due to a failure of God’s heart. What are the practical implications of this for us?
Discussion Questions
- Read Romans 9:1-3 again. Is there somebody on your heart like that? Take time to pray as a group for the people that are on your heart. (What is your strategy for sharing the gospel with that person?
- Read Romans 11:33 and also remember what we said in the sermon – “All heresy aims to take away mystery.” How does this help you make sense of election and human responsibility?
- C.S. Lewis said that we put ourselves on the bench and put God in the dock. Where do you find yourself doing that?
- What does the metaphor of God as the Potter and we as the clay mean for us?
- In the sermon we said, at the end of the day you have to submit yourself to the revelation of God’s heart for you? How does this passage point you to God’s heart? What does it mean to submit to that revelation of God’s heart?
- What is your one big take-away from this passage?
