II. HOLINESS IS MODERATION
Virtue is a matter of avoiding extremes.

Jesus plus anything equals nothing. Jesus plus nothing is the gospel.

IV. GRACE IS A DRILL INSTRUCTOR
Grace trains us in righteousness.

Discussion Questions

  1. Are you a “there is no black and white” person or a “everything is black and white” person? What’s the danger for each type?
  2. What is one “grey” area – no clear moral imperative – that you are dealing with right now?
  3. How should we relate to one another in these grey areas? What should we do? What do we usually do instead?
  4. Aristotle said that virtue is finding the mean between two extremes. We all agree that too much food and drink is a bad thing. But what about too little?
  5. Which presents a greater danger to the church – immorality or moralism? (Hint: both but we tend to worry more about one than the other – why?)
  6. Where does the power for change come from? Read Colossians 2:23 and Titus 2:11-14 again. What are the implications for your own struggle with sin? How do they impact your parenting? How should they impact the way you befriend others?
