I. WELCOME ONE ANOTHER – WHY?
There is only one Lord of the conscience.

 

II. WELCOME ONE ANOTHER – WHAT?
The strong must welcome and not despise the weak. The weak must welcome and not pass judgment on the strong.

 

III. WELCOME ONE ANOTHER – HOW?
At the door of the kingdom of heaven there is a welcome mat of grace.

 

Discussion Questions

  1. God is the Judge. We will all give an account of ourselves to him. That can be a scary thought. Why is it also good news? Can you adore God for his justice?
  2. We live to the Lord – not to ourselves. How are you tempted to just please yourself? How does this passage challenge you?
  3. We live to the Lord – not to others. God is the only Lord of the conscience. How are you tempted to try to please others and not God? How does this passage challenge you? 
  4. Romans 14-15 begins and ends with the command to “welcome” one another. What does this mean?
  5. The strong are tempted to despise the weak instead of welcoming them. The weak are tempted to judge the strong instead of welcoming them. Define those terms. Which is more of a temptation for you personally?
  6. Christ has welcomed you! That is the good news of the gospel. How does it help you welcome others where you differ or disagree?
