Outline
I. LOSTNESS
Both the boys in Jesus’ parable are lost. They are alienated from the love of the father.
II. THE SEEKING SAVIOR
“The Son of Man came to seek and save the Lost” (Luke 19:10).
Discussion Questions
- Have you ever been lost? Like, really lost. Tell the story.
- How did we define lostness in the sermon? Recap again how you see this lostness in both the younger and the older brother. How is their approach to the father similar?
- Are you more like the younger brother or the older brother?
- At the end of the parable, the younger brother is reconciled to the father but the older brother is not. Why is “older brother” lostness more dangerous? What is particularly treacherous about it?
- What does repentance look like for the younger brother? For the older brother?
- Do you struggle to believe that God is like the father in Jesus’ story?
