Parables of the Kingdom

The gospel is the gospel of the kingdom. Jesus published the good news of the kingdom come mainly in parables. These subversive stories are meant to disrupt our assumptions about how life should be lived and help us imagine a better way. The church is a preview of the world as it will be under the reign of Christ. The not-yet kingdom of heaven already here on earth. In other words, gospel doctrine creates gospel culture. When Jesus says, “The kingdom of heaven is like,” he is showing us the kind of people he is re-creating us to be.
